Due to current restrictions to access to schools, it is not possible to have parents’ and carers’ evenings in the usual way. However, having an opportunity for staff to provide feedback on pupil progress is still an essential part of the life of our school. Therefore, after exploring several options, we have decided to hold virtual meetings using the system from our normal parents’ evening booking company, School Cloud. This system gives us video conferencing to allow one-to-one meetings to take place between parents/carers and staff.

We have trialled the system with staff and they have found it easy to use. In addition, a number of Falkirk Council secondary schools have already used it successfully for this purpose. In a small number of cases, there have been connectivity issues with it, so please bear with us in terms of that!

What equipment do I need to access the virtual parents and carers evening?

In order to join the virtual appointments you will need:

• a device with a microphone and speaker.
• access to the internet.
• a compatible web browser as follows:
  • iPhone/iPad: Safari
  • Android: Chrome or Firefox
  • Windows: Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Edge
  • Mac: Safari, Chrome or Firefox
  • Linux: Chrome or Firefox
• It is recommended that you use the browsers above rather than Internet Explorer.
• It is recommended to use a smartphone for video appointments. However, if you do not have a smartphone with a front facing camera, a laptop or computer with a webcam will allow you to connect.

Do I need to install an app to join the virtual parents evening?

No, there is no need to install any apps on your device. The only way to access the website is through a normal web browser see recommended list of browsers above.
